Volunteering Opportunities at SDAMH

Do You Have the Time to Make a Difference?

Background
Stirling & District Association for Mental Health works throughout the communities of Stirling Council area providing a range of Services for people aged 12 + 65 years who have experienced or are having difficulties with their mental health and well-being.

Volunteers help us in our work by volunteering for around 2 hours once a week with one of the following Services:

  • Administration
  • Adult Befriending
  • Drop-In & Groups
  • InTouch Information
  • Young Persons Befriending Service

How about working in the busy Administration Service welcoming people into SDAMH, answering telephones & general office administration?

Or, helping out in the 1-to-1 Adult Befriending Service supporting isolated and vulnerable people (18 - 65 yrs old) through ‘companionship’, to enjoy community- based activities such as sports, leisure, or entertainment.

Perhaps the Drop-in & Groups Service is more tempting - chatting with a few people over coffee or helping to take part in activities or outings e.g. walks, pool, bowling, board games, picnics etc.

Computers more your thing?  Then assist the InTouch Information Service researching mental health issues, keeping the database up-to-date and help to provide information to members of the public in a variety of community settings.

Or, the Young Persons' Befriending Service which aims to help young people (12 – 18 yrs), build their self esteem while alleviating social isolation through the consistent and reliable support of a befriender. Are you that person?

These Services could not operate without Volunteers and we welcome enquiries from open-minded people, interested in committing a couple of hours of their valuable time each week to help other people get more from their lives.

'I take my volunteering very seriously and try hard not to let the organisation down'

'I enjoy working within the Administration service and get on well with everyone'

'I know that regular Befriending visits have been shown to help make a difference to someone's life'

'I enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and accepting challenge'

'Ongoing training and contact is of great value'

'I know I am making a difference'
