News from 'see me....'
‘see me....’ www.seemescotland.org.uk has once again been commended for its creativity and effectiveness on the UK stage, winning its eleventh award at the high profile 2006 IPA Best of Health Awards; renowned for showcasing only the world's best creativity in healthcare advertising, voted by industry peers, across press, poster, TV, radio, and new media.

Scooping the bronze award for the ‘see me....’ Cloud Boy and Girl young people campaign the first of its kind in the UK to tackle issues of self-harm, alienation, depression and anorexia among young people aged 12-18, Campaign Director Linda Dunion said -“We are absolutely thrilled that the campaign has once again been recognised by such an esteemed panel of judges. This Best of Health award for Public Sector Advertising really highlights the value of encouraging campaigns which tackle taboos, eliminate stigma and change the world we live in”.

“The award is testament to not only the support and talent of all the people who have worked with ‘see me’, but importantly the young people who courageously told their personal stories, helping to break down stigma surrounding mental illness and giving others, young and old, the confidence to talk about their problems and seek help, without the fear of experiencing stigma”.

This latest award follows a high profile win for the young people campaign last year during Scottish Mental Health Week at the prestigious UK Mental Health Media Awards.

Breathing Space Evaluation
The independent evaluation of Breathing Space has been published.

The Evaluation was carried out by the Scottish Centre for Social Research, between April and December 2005 and has found Breathing Space provides a high-quality service, and makes a positive difference to the lives of increasing numbers of callers, many of whom are vulnerable and experiencing difficulties in their lives.

It also found that Breathing Space has worked effectively to establish an accessible, empathetic and supportive style of listening and advising.

More information is available by clicking on the Breathing Space web link www.breathingspacescotland.co.uk.

Care Commission Inspection Of Home Support Service Report
The Care Commission www.carecommission.com recently made their first inspection of SDAMH’s Home Support Service.

The inspection was very thorough and involved meetings with the Home Support Clients and Staff and involved inspection of paperwork (not client files) and home visits to see clients and staff working together. The Care Commission also sent out Questionnaires to clients and staff asking for opinions on aspects of the Service and how it is run etc.

SDAMH is pleased to have the final report (as a PDF document), which you can download a copy by clicking here.
